Whispers In The Dark: a blog by Star

Entry 9 - Replying to guest book messages #3 (and general update)

  Greetings, my constellation! ♥

Well. It's 2025 and what a year it is so far. (derogatory) That being said, a lot has happened in the last 6-ish months. I've moved out, got a new job, and well that's kind of it. But hey! Those are big things.

After the release of The Quiet Places Still Exist, I kind of retreated from music and creativity for a bit. It was a push to get the album out, and even still there are just a few things I wish I had done differently, but I'm so unbelievably satisfied with how it turned out altogether, and the support it recieved is just incredible. I don't really like focusing on numbers (lie) but like, the album currently sits at nearly 20k views on YouTube which is insane. I've also gotten like, over $80 from people buying the album on Bandcamp????? Like, thank you all so much!! (FYI, the album is free download on Bandcamp, if you wanted to have it offline)

SO! Yeah, a lot has gone on. Plenty of new messages in the guest book, also~ So I'm gonna take some time to reply to all of em!

"the little cat running around on the homepage is cute, your entire page is so cozy and im excited to see where nighttime synthetics goes (if it goes anywhere) :@ :@ :@ :-) :-) :-)"

Hehe, yeah, I really like the cat :> And Nighttime Synthetics isn't really something I planned on working too much on, but it's not a closed book. I might come back to the idea... :3

Message 14, from "DAWN" (she/they/xem, message left 6/1/2024, 2:37PM PDT)

"seems yu got the music player to work alright...hehe"

That I did! I still have yet to update it with some new songs, but yeah, stole if from your site and it works wonders :>

Message 15, from "Julie/ Jess" (She/her, message left 6/12/2024, 8:42PM PDT, United States)

"Been a while, we never talked after the fallout of that entire friend group yet i always considered reaching out. I hope youre doing well, i admire your want to change the world, that same thing is really important to me. You should tell me your favorite Arcadia Grey song"

I believe by the time I'm replying to this, we have talked about all that had happened. I'm doing so much better than I was back then, and I really truly hope you are too. When we last talked, things were pretty rough for you, so I hope you're somewhere better these days. And my favorite Arcadia Grey song is probably Kevin Pickles & the Great Pool Noodle Excursion, though honestly I'm not as fond of them as I thought I would be. Still a good band though.

Message 16, from "I don't wanna share it" (Gender dysphoric male raaaaa, message left 9/17/2024, 12:42AM PDT, United States)

"Yo mama? Or, yo dada?"

Actually if this is who I think it is, then I really wish I could reply to this truly, but something tells me that the person who sent this message isn't one who is willing (or maybe even able) to ever reach out to me again. A lot happens in a few months, huh?

Message 17, from "November" (the/them, message left 10/11/2024, 1:54PM PDT, United States)

"'The Quiet Places Still Exist' got randomly suggested to me via yt algorithm. That lead me here- I'm glad it did, because I've enjoyed clicking around. Your twine game has the same wandering, esoteric mood as some of my favorite old text adventures. Your work as a whole feels very genuine, so I hope you keep creating :-)"

You know, interestingly, I know someone named December. Anyways, I'm glad you like what you've found here! Wanderlust is something I want to come back to some day, so I appreciate the words on it. I try to keep my work as true to my wants as possible, so I will always keep creating. Interestingly, this also leads to dozens of unfinished projects, songs, artworks, and everything of that nature, as when I lose interest in something, I don't force myself to keep doing it. This helps avoid lots of stress over the quality or consistency of my work, but also means there's significantly less stuff put out overall, but oh well.

"found this website at 1:30 in the morning, a nostalgic and needed return to form."

Finding this website at 1:30 am is the intended experience, genuinely. I'm writing this at almost 4am. Most of the work on this website has been done past 10pm. I'm glad you like it :>

Message 19, from "Vivi" (She/Her, message left 10/12/2024, 4:44PM PDT, United Kingdom)

":-) Awesome site and killer tunes ♥"

I checked out your site, and that compliment goes both ways! A really well laid out webpage while still being unique and fun to look at :>

"uooghhhh :P :P :P"

aughhhh :3 :3 :3

"Very cool music and neat site, keep it up! :D

I'm always looking for music to use in my projects so I was wondering what the license is for these albums. No judgement either way, it's just cool when artists license their stuff with copyright-zero or CC-BY, so any random project can use the music/art, possibly just requiring inclusion in the credits. Star, if you happen to see this, give some thought to with how you might (or might not) be cool with other people using your stuff and add a relevant license to the page ;-)"

I'm glad you enjoy my work :> So! I believe I've said it somewhere before, but if not, then to clarify, all my work is free to use so long as I'm credited in some manner. Don't even really have to tell me about it, even though I would like to see when people use my work just because it's cool. I do gotta put an official statement on usage rules for my work somewhere though...

"I found your album 'The Quiet Places Still Exist' through Youtube recommendations and I really enjoyed it! it has this feeling of nostalgia and wonder that I like. hope you're doing well!"

Glad you enjoyed the album! I've had quite a few people tell me the album feels very nostalgic, which is interesting to me, as the whole point of the album is to say that these places still exist today, and you can find and make them as you wish. And I am doing well currently :>s

Message 23, from "Kookaburra" (what?/how?, message left 10/17/2024, 5:58PM PDT, United States)

"I am also another tuber denizen who got 'The Quiet Places Still Exist' recommended to them. Keep up the good work!"

Glad so many people saw the album and looked further into the other stuff I do! I plan on continuing my creative endeavors for as long as I live, though they may change in form.

Message 24, from "Darkcoucou" (he/him, message left 10/22/2024, 7:12AM PDT, Austria)

"Found you through yt recommendations while sifting through various esoteric ambient indie music. Nice text adventures!
Always love to see people using neocities!"

Esoteric ambient indie music. I like that. I gotta keep up on my website more, honestly. Wanderlust is a little daunting to jump back into at this point, but I would like to in some capacity.

Message 25, from "Koye" (he/they, message left 10/22/2024, 9:26PM PDT, United States)

"Hello! I hope you're doing well! I adore the aesthetics of your page."

Oh hi ! Glad you like the page, and yeah I'm doing alright. It's been quite a while, and I hope you're doing well too. Let it be known I do miss having you as a friend.

Message 26, from "Zano" (sure, message left 10/25/2024, 2:21AM PDT, Canada)

"Howdy, wanted to hollar and say your music on youtube is phenomenal, do you plan to allow purchases on bandcamp or something? Always looking for small musicians to throw my meager shillings at."

Glad you like the music! And yeah, as of writing this (and I'm pretty sure when this message was left) my Bandcamp is up under my artist name, and you can download any of my albums for any price (including free) I plan on keeping all my already-released projects this way, so people can enjoy them as they wish, but future albums might have a price tag for full download. We'll see.

  Message 27, from "katanya04" (message left 11/22/2024, 5:47PM PDT)

"Your web is incredible, just like the rest of your art. Youre very talented in the art of expressing oneself.
I hope your doing good and I wish you the best."

Thank you! I try to keep all of my artwork as truly expressive as possible, even if I choose to avoid some parts altogether. I like having those parts of my self that I do share be as genuine as possible. I hope you're also doing well :>

Message 28, from "Sam Hain" (any, message left 11/23/2024, 3:40PM PDT, United States)

"'The Quiet Places Still Exist' is the perfect soundtrack for toiling away on an important assignment, and I had to thank you for making it! Your webpage and music are wonderful, please keep up the good work and always remember to take good care of yourself. ♥"

I'll keep up the work as best I can! I never really thought Quiet Places would be someone's working music, but it's cool to see :>

Message 29, from "Azalea Korita" (it/its, message left 2/2/2025, 8:53PM, PDT, United States)

"HI FELLOW IT/ITS USER!!! :D
your art inspires me! i hope you find love in creating as long as you can!"

It/its pronoun user :3 Actually at the time of writing, I more use she/it but this is still applicable ! It's really cool to hear I inspire someone, as while I don't particularly stress over the impact my art has on the world, it is still undeniably gratifying to know someone is better off because of what I've done. And as I've said before, I will continue to create as long as I can.

Well, those are all the new guest messages in the guest book for now! I would like to keep working on little bits of my website, so I might do that in the near future, as well as peek into game/story development again.

For those of you that read this, whether you have been following my music/creative endeavors for a while, or only for a little bit, I thank you. I may disappear from this side of the internet here and there, but trust that I'm always up to something somewhere. For now, that's all I have.

☆ Have a wonderful night ☆
